Ranch History

The registered herd was started in 1962 by Dorothy and Dutch Eayrs with the purchase of six registered cows at Glasgow Stockyards. They were raised in North Dakota and were Bandolier bloodlines.

In 1963 we bought five bred heifers and a bull from Russ Denowh and Joe Gartner of GDAR. From then on our replacement heifers were home raised. We bought several quality bulls over the years from Charlie and Brent McRae of Big Dry Ranch.

We sold our bulls private treaty for many years. In 2003 we held our first auction at Glasgow Stockyards, and have continued for 20 years. Due to having started our business in Valley County, we have many much-appreciated repeat buyers there.

In 1970 Monte went to ABS AI school in his junior year of high school and started AI-ing for several years, using Traveler and Emulation bred bulls. All five of the kids, Jack, Monte, Tracie, Colleen and Kristi, were in 4-H and enjoyed showing bulls, heifers, steers and also horses. Monte showed bulls and heifers not only at Northeast Montana Fair, but also Glendive, Sidney, Circle fairs, in addition to sales at Malta, Wolf Point and Glendive Exposition.

We always had a goal of raising gentle, hardy cattle and keeping birth weights moderate.

After years of searching, in 2001 Dad (Monte) and Grandma Dorothy purchased the ranch on Cabin Creek near Fallon, Montana. Eayrs Angus finally had a place where the cattle could run year round and prosper. His three sons graduated from Terry High School. They were involved in 4-H and showing cattle also.

The ranch is now managed by the third generation, Logan, Mark, Paul and families, with a fourth generation growing up on the ranch.

In 2017, Logan and Kacie moved back to the area after purchasing Kacie’s grandparents’ ranch near Ismay, Montana. In 2022 Dad accomplished one of his goals of purchasing a ranch that we could run our yearling heifers on.

In August of 2022 we lost Monte to cancer. Everything that Eayrs Angus has become in the last 30 years has only been possible because of his hard work and the sacrifices that he made.

While going through old cattle records after Dad’s passing, we realized that we had cows that could be registered. Eayrs Angus is proud to say that we will again be selling registered Angus bulls alongside our commercial Angus and composite bulls.
